How My 3 Week Design Process Works

Discovery & Proposal
Once you’ve filled out my application form, we’ll organise a call to chat through your business and website requirements. After the call I’ll be putting together a custom proposal for you including a quote, our suggested 3 week project slot, and what’s included in the service.
If you’re happy to go ahead, you’ll then receive my contract and deposit invoice to schedule in our slot!

Strategy
After you’ve filled out your client questionnaire, I’ll get started on preparing your website strategy, which ensures we’re both clear on the direction of the project. This includes:
An audit of your existing website (identifying gaps & opportunities for the new site)
SEO keyword & market research (so we can optimise each page for your ideal customers)
Style & focus suggestions (so we’re prepped & on the same page for project kick-off!)

Your prep
I’ll give you access to your Client Portal so you can start uploading the content and elements we need before we start the project (such as your branding, text, images etc.).
You’ll receive my ‘Content Planning Guide’ to help guide you through this too!
Need help finding a brand designer or copywriter? I partner with talented specialists in these areas that we can connect with before your website project!
3 week project slot
Website Draft & Feedback
Week 1: I’ll be setting up your website on Squarespace and designing the Home page layout to send to you for initial feedback.
Week 2: With your feedback I’ll be refining the design of the Home page and setting up your other pages to send you a full first draft to review.
Week 3: This is all about refining the draft ready to launch your site!

It’s the makeover reveal moment!
Once we’ve finished refining your website, we’ll get ready to launch it into the world. I’ll be providing you with a Launch Guide with tips on what to do next, as well as personalised video tutorials showing you how to make edits & updates yourself easily.

Squarespace is a website building platform and hosting company. You may have also heard of platforms such as WordPress or Wix, but my preference for designing sites is Squarespace, mainly because it is so user-friendly for my clients to manage!

I used to do WordPress website design, but no longer offer this as a service. I’ve been working with Squarespace for over 10 years now so I know it like the back of my hand! My clients absolutely love how easy it is to use.

As with any website host, you have to pay a monthly or annual hosting fee.
You can find Squarespace's pricing on their website, but most of my clients require either the Business Plan, or the Basic Commerce Plan. If you work with me, you can get 20% off your first year too!
(Note: This cost, along with the cost of your domain, is separate to my website design fee.)

Once we have set a date to get started on your project, and have been through our contract, you will receive an invoice for your 50% deposit. Then, when the project is complete you will receive an invoice for the remaining 50%. This will all be written out in our contract.

There is no VAT to pay on my website design services.

At the end of every project, I supply my clients with a Squarespace guide, resources and video tutorials to empower them to manage and make edits to the website themselves.
Squarespace itself also has award-winning 24/7 technical support and an extensive ‘Knowledge Base’ resource of information. However, for quick questions I am always an email away!
If you need further edits after our project or any website updates, I can do piece-work at my hourly rate.

At the moment I require between 8 - 12 weeks notice to book a project, but don't be afraid to get in touch anyway in case I have a space sooner!
Usually it can be useful for you to have this time to gather the things you need to get started on the project too.

Yes! In fact, around half of my clients are US-based (I'm in the UK), and I have worked with people in New Zealand and United Arab Emirates before too.
For payment for non-EU clients, rather than send you an invoice for a bank transfer, I will set up a payment link for you to be able to pay by credit/debit card.
The amount you pay will be in GBP £. and your bank will automatically convert this into your own currency using its own exchange rate. You can get a rough idea of currency exchange rates using this converter!

My process is specifically designed to be easy and stress free for you; I will talk you through each stage clearly and let you know exactly how to prepare. At the end, I will be providing you with a guide and video tutorials showing you exactly how to make any edits you need.
The beauty of Squarespace is that it is a totally ‘managed’ platform (unlike WordPress). This means that all updates, maintenance, security and tech stuff is taken care for you so you don’t even need to think about it.

Once we have scheduled our project, I will guide you through exactly what I need from you and how to prepare.
You’ll receive my client questionnaire, access to your own Client Portal, which will guide you through supplying me with the content (text and images) for your website.
Working with a copywriter, brand designer and/or photographer? You can provide them access to this Client Portal too, or upload their files yourself.
If you’re not working with a copywriter and are DIY-ing the text for your website, you’ll receive my ‘Content Planning Guide’ with tips for how to write this!
